More Information

What was the challenge intended to be addressed? Why? What did work well? What did not work well? What have been the main achievements? How did you evaluate its success? What has been the change brought by this good practice?

Public timely presentation PHE to potential future students (final year students of secondary schools and other interested parties). The goal is inform them about study programs, achievements in certain areas, equipment of individual higher education institutions, curricula, places of employment in certain professions, accommodation conditions during study in Zagreb, student life and many other details.
It is good that potential future students and others interested can get direct information about a particular PHE institution. University of Zagreb Fair takes several days and is organized in a large indoor space. PHE institutions present their programs, the way of teaching organization. The professors and students present their works and achievements. PHE institutions shared promotional materials, and informations about the fair there are also in public media. One of the impact of this fair is that some of the PHE institutions subscribe in the first round all planned number of students in first year of study (eg Zagreb University of Applied Sciences ).

Success Factors

What are the enabling conditions (e.g. institutional, economic, social/cultural, regulatory) that needed to be in place or played a facilitating role for the good practice to be successful?

Members of the University of Zagreb and other PHE, sponsors, partners and patrons are present at their exhibition venues for a period of three days. Teachers and students for their institutions (faculties, academias and PHE) conduct public lectures and presentations.
The Fair is an ideal opportunity to see and hear teachers, students, topics, lectures and presentations about the future study. Potential future students can easily make their decision or get a new idea of what to choose as their future study.

Constraints

What are the challenges, barriers or limiting factors encountered? How have they been addressed?

At the last fair there were 31 faculties and 3 Academy of Art of the University of Zagreb and other higher education institutions from Zagreb and the Republic of Croatia were reviewed.
This program is performed by limited numbers of PHE and Faculties of the University of Zagreb, or by a smaller number of universities in the Republic of Croatia. This programs are not perform by majority of PHE in Croatia.

Feasibility & Sustainability

What are the elements that need to be put into place for the good practice to be sustainable (institutionally, socially, economically, etc.)? If applicable, indicate the total costs incurred for the implementation of the practice. What are the benefits compared to total costs?

The University of Zagreb prepares for a future students a publication names "Guide to Future Students", which will be distribute free of charge to the all Fair's visitors, also with brochures for doctoral and specialist studies.
This fair should included, supported and gatherd all higher education institutions in Croatia, and also more powerful include business sector like sponsors of the fair activity. This would reduce the cost of this and similar events, involve more PHE institutions as well as companies from the real sector and satisfie needs of the labor market. Then more students would make the decision to study at PHE institutions that learn and train them for the real labor market needs.

Replicability & Upscaling

What are the possibilities of extending the good practice more widely? What are the conditions that need to be in place for the good practice to be successfully replicated in a similar context? What are the steps that should be taken/respected to ensure that the good practice is replicated / up-scaled, but adapted to the new context?

Initiatives should focus on supporting such actions, strengthening co-operation between higher education institutions and the business sector and companies as well as public institutions. The Croatian government and its ministries departments should be involved in similar campaign and give support for such actions. It is very important to anticipate the necessary knowledge and skills for those professions related to modern labor markets, new technologies etc.

Lessons learned

What would have facilitated an earlier and/or bigger impact? What are the key features that should be kept in mind if this would have to be implemented again? What would you do differently if you could go back in time? What could have been done better?

This is one of few promotions for potential students on what exists out there of study programs in Rebublic of Croatia. Besides promoting study programs at Universities this event helps also promotion of Universities and University Colleges of Applied Sciences (PHE institutions).
A stronger campaign and promotion of study programs of the PHE institutions which give knowledge and train for the real modern labor market needs, would be increase the number of students at this institutions.
