Academics have a broad entrepreneur’s skills, and have deep knowledge about market needs, European LO are transferred and implemented at institutional level

Academics which are employed at Polytechnics mostly came from a real sector and industry and they are also involved in numerus commercial projects with industry. Some of them are entrepreneurs, what is giving them additional experience in practical knowledge and labour market needs. Also, such experience, from world of business, directly have positive effects on learning outcomes and proper implementation of them during study processes.

What was the challenge intended to be addressed? Why? What did work well? What did not work well? What have been the main achievements? How did you evaluate its success? What has been the change brought by this good practice?

A challenge is how to truly link PHE and labour market, and the reason is that it is not a common practice to have a teacher, an entrepreneur and employer all in one person. This is precisely the reason why the involvement of PHE in the labour market is bigger than that of classic universities. This impacts faster involvement of graduate students into working processes.

Success Factors

What are the enabling conditions (e.g. institutional, economic, social/cultural, regulatory) that needed to be in place or played a facilitating role for the good practice to be successful?

Success of the example of good practice depends mostly on sociological factors, such as social understanding of the importance of pro-active participation of an individual and institutions in planning and implementation of activities related to timely response to or prediction of future needs of the labour market.


What are the challenges, barriers or limiting factors encountered? How have they been addressed?

Basic constraints, and challenges at the same time, are result of lack of understanding of the education process and evolution of the labour market. This can be seen in inadequate involvement of sufficiently competent teaching staff with relevant experience in entrepreneurship, but rather formal conditions are fulfilled when it comes to the choice of the teaching staff at the PHEI.

Feasibility & Sustainability

What are the elements that need to be put into place for the good practice to be sustainable (institutionally, socially, economically, etc.)? If applicable, indicate the total costs incurred for the implementation of the practice. What are the benefits compared to total costs?

It is necessary to motivate individuals from the economic sector to get involved in the teaching process at the level of PHEI, but it is also important to raise the awareness of the PHEI management on long-term benefits of the adjustment of teaching process to the labour market needs. On the other hand, this is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to select the best candidates for future employees as early as during the educational process. There are no extra or additional costs, since it is all happening within already existing educational activities.

Replicability & Upscaling

What are the possibilities of extending the good practice more widely? What are the conditions that need to be in place for the good practice to be successfully replicated in a similar context? What are the steps that should be taken/respected to ensure that the good practice is replicated / up-scaled, but adapted to the new context?

In order to be able to replicate the examples of good practice, it is important to emphasize successful indicators to all relevant stakeholders of the process. Having in mind that Europe in essence has significant problems with labour, i.e. quantity, but also quality, it is clear that every entrepreneur who wants to survive needs to ensure continuous flow of competent staff. The best way is through personal involvement in the educational process, which contributes to the adjustment of study curricula, and enables supervision over potential human resources demanded by the labour market.
